Description

Many great artists through the years have made music history without really knowing much about music theory. They used all the different sounds and patterns, but never fully learned the science behind it all. And that is obviously more than okay. But if you understand why something sounds the way it does, whether that be a lick, a melody, a riff or a chord progression, you can isolate the elements that speak to you and find a way to use them in your own way. If you don't understand why it works the way it does, that would be a lot harder to do.

So that's where a little bit of music theory can come in really handy, and in this tutorial I'll show you some basic music theory that's directly relevant to rock music. This will help you understand some of the “science” behind all the different sounds like the basic I, IV and V concepts, chords in relation to scale degrees, and other common harmonic events in rock. Let's get to it!
