Description

A common way that the old Delta players would approach this style is by use of open string tunings on the instrument. This essentially means that the strings on the guitar are either tuned up or down to create a single chord amongst the open strings. This works very well with the slide approach and allows for single chords to be played on one fret. In this example, we will take our guitars standard tuning and tune to an open G tuning. Here is the breakdown:

E - down to D

A - down to G

D - no alteration

G - no alteration

B - no alteration

E - down to D

We will take a look at how to play a 12 Bar Blues utilizing this new approach, along with some key tips on using vibrato and our slide. Let's get started.
