Description
Another common way to explore the major scale is by use of your open strings (EADGBE.) You can play almost every key in this fashion in some way or another, and this can be applied to a variety of rock rhythm and lead styles. We will take a look at this idea using the key of G major, moving in the same pattern across open strings when available.

G-A-B-C-D-E-F#-G
