Description

This song is comprised of essentially one chord, one riff, and plenty of dynamics. The lone electric guitar plays single note lines throughout, adding both unison, as well as call/response support to the vocal. The whole performance is a great opportunity to practice how to hold down the song with only one guitar layer in the context of a power trio.

The tune starts off with the recurring riff played on guitar, bass, and harmonica. The verse brings the dynamic down slightly, as the guitar plays call/response with the vocal. The pre-chorus features a slightly different riff, which ramps up to the high dynamic of the unison chorus section. There are a few breakdown sections that occur in the song that bring the dynamic way down, adding a nice arc to the arrangement.

Of course, the song features an extended solo section - comprised of the licks that form the backbone of blues lead guitar vocabulary, as well as an extended outro to showcase some bluesy guitar fireworks.

In the following lessons, we'll talk about the pentatonic minor scale and positions, dynamics, and some killer bluesy leads. We are in the key of E major, with a 4/4 time signature, at a tempo of 112 BPM.
