The bridge is 8 bars long and uses this chord progression.

V of V I V of V V7
A7 G A7 D7

Here we find the aforementioned usage of V7 of V. The bridge is distinct from both the verse and the chorus, and is classically placed right in the middle of the song.

It starts with the V chord, with the lyric "now," and we know we aren't in Kansas anymore. The function of the bridge is to go away from where we have been, to switch things up harmonically and therefore melodically.

The last line of the bridge is often used to communicate an important lyric, while at the same time driving us harmonically back to the verse.
