In this lesson we'll discuss the characteristic elements of melody.

There should be a unity of the overall group of notes. Each note should flow naturally to the next resulting in an overall unity. There should be a variety of motion, up and down. There should be a clear beginning, middle and ending. The melody should have a "story arc". It's not necessary, but best to have one high or low point that the entire melody works toward and away from.
