Description

A Stratocaster guitar is the perfect choice for this tune. If you don't have access to a Strat, any guitar with a single coil pickup in the bridge position will do just fine. The single coil gives a bright and sparkly tone perfect for blending in with the rhythm section for funk style grooving.

No amplifier was used for the guitar on the recording. It was plugged straight into the mixing console and recorded onto tape that way. This gives the guitar that thin and hollow, yet sparkly spank. Lots of low end EQ was dialed out to emphasize the bright and cutting high end, and a ton of compression, chorus, and reverb were used as well.

If you wish to play this guitar part through an amp, choose a Fender style clean amp. The key is to keep the amp completely clean (no overdrive or distortion whatsoever), and roll the Low EQ knob completely off. Check out the settings I used:

Parametric EQ: Hi-Pass Filter, 700Hz, -12 dB || 3.0KHz, +5.5dB

Compression: Sensitivity: 60% Level: 75%

Sine Chorus: Speed: 20% Depth: 70% Wet/DryMIX: 45%

Tiled Room Reverb: Wet/DryMIX: 55%
