Stevie Ray Vaughan was an incredible guitar player, and on top of that he played with amazing tone. This tone was obtained from various tube amps- mainly Fender and Marshall, but most importantly from his Strat with really heavy strings on it. He often added a Tube Screamer overdrive pedal as well. Those elements are a good place to start if you wanna imitate a basic Stevie Ray Vaughan tone, but just as much of it comes down to how you play.
One thing that's very noticeable on this song is his use of a Leslie effect on his guitar. Leslie's are amps with rotating speakers that are most commonly associated with Hammond organs, but if you add it on the fast setting to a basic guitar tone, you end up with the sound you hear on this recording. It's really cool and different.
I'm using my Strat today, and I'm running it through a modeled Fender amp with the volume cranked so it breaks up really nicely. I'm also using a little bit of reverb and a pedal simulating the Leslie speaker on the fast setting. For the rhythm guitar I'm using the same basic settings, but with a different cabinet on the amp, just to distinguish it from the main guitar part, and no Leslie effect.
