Description

Guitar 1 is an acoustic guitar tuned for open G. The open strings become an open G chord when strummed, and it allows for some cool voicings to be played overtop. It also is a great choice when the guitar is the only accompaniment, as you can drone the low strings and play up high within the key. Any acoustic guitar will work well here.

As far as electric guitars go, any guitar can work very well here. The tones have more to do with the amp’s EQ settings and choice of effects.

With amps, any vintage style tube amp will do the trick. Guitars 2 and 3 are set for a cleaner sound, with much of the bass dialed out, leaving us with a thinner sounding guitar that emphasizes all the highs and some mids. This is an interesting choice for such a heavy riff. Guitar 4 is much fuller sounding, and uses a fuzz pedal to get that cello-like sustain. Check out the settings I used:

Vox AC 30 Model: Drive: 40% Bass: 0% Mid: 45% Treble: 80% Presence: 70%

Fuzz Effect: Drive: 75% Gain: 100% Tone: 50%

Open G Tuning (low to high): D G D G B D
