Description
The timing is very important. If you really want to have a good jazz (swing) timing it is very important that you learn to feel the accent of 4/4 time on counts 2 and 4. Counts 2 and 4 are called the backbeat. When these counts are naturally accented in jazz, the swing within the rhythm of all parts becomes more natural.
I will demonstrate this first with a simple walking bass line. Next, we'll try it with a simple pentatonic scale idea and then some random, single-note ideas.
Timing, as the old saying goes, is everything.
