Scales on GT?

Hi:

I am enjoying my subscription, but i always find myself desperately looking for scales for practice. I always seem to assume that if I click on the Lessons tab, there would be a dedicated section to "Scales", where i could click on "C Major scale for Blues" or something like that. There would be a tab to follow, and probably a single 3 minute vid showing the execution of the scale.

I am curious if you plan to add that, or if you dont plan to....why was that left off? Perhaps there is some reason that would send a beginner down the wrong path?

I have been with GT for a year now, and procrastinating alot, so I called my local instructor and had my first lesson. He gave me a sheet of three scales, and in practicing them, suddenly a ton of GT material made sense, and I did not feel so overwhelmed.

Please add a similar feature. Thanks lots!

Guitar Fundamentals 2, Chapter 1 is all about intervals & scales. That will give you a proper foundation understanding of what scales are & why we use them.

You don't always need scales written for every individual key. If you know the notes on the fretboard and the root notes in every shape, you can find the scale for the specific key by locating the root note on the fretboard. For example, the root for A major scale on the 6th string 5th fret, to practice the same shape in D major, just move up to the 10th fret on the 6th string and play the same shape. This also allows you to think more about the notes on the fretboard rather than refer to the books all the time, and can help with learning the fretboard more effectively.

Just saw "The Art of Practice" section in Lessons. Does this thread take partial credit for getting that conversation started? Of course it does!! (that is the sound of me straining to pat myself on the back).

Good one! Your thread would definitely get partial credit. Instructors had been telling us the same thing for couple months, and then your thread sort of sealed it.

The hardest part was getting the buttons done!
