Greeting all,

I have gone trough guitar fondamental 1, and 2, I have to say that Lisa Mckormik, she's amazing, and I have learned barr chords, power chords, the chord 1, 4, and 5 theory, some basic strumming and some basic scales.

I would love to be able to pick up a gyuita, and jam over a chord progression, and to follow a band just knowing the key on witch they playng.

Kindly, bdoes anyone knows what shall I do from were I am? in other words, what should I study now to move up?

Thank you all very much indeed in advance.

Hi padella.

Yeah, I'm in a similar place right now. My plan is to move on to the Blues Style path and do Levels 1 and 2 before moving on to Rock. I've alse picked a few songs to work on and am working on them a bit.

Istvan

You should continue learning skills & ideas. And at the same time learn songs!

1. Pick a style course to continue the core learning system. Pick Rock, Blues or Country. Those will pick up where GF left off & show you the next level of skills & ideas to help you continue to improve.

https://www.guitartricks.com/course.php?input=rock1

https://www.guitartricks.com/course.php?input=country1

2. Learn songs! Find some songs that are at your current skill level & find some that are slightly above it so you've got a challenge to work on also.

https://www.guitartricks.com/songs.php?input=beginners

Finally, I have a series of tutorials aimed directly at learning to improvise over any progression.

https://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=483

https://www.guitartricks.com/tutorial.php?input=491

But keep in mind that ultimately the best way to learn to jam along with other musicians is learn & play lots of songs. Learning & playing songs is the end goal after all. That's the form in which we play music! Learning & playing songs gives you a great foundation of many different chord progressions, rhythms, strumming & picking patterns & helps you practice playing in time with a band.

Best of success!

Again, we're in the same boat padella! I started playing in the 80s and was in a few bands back then but I have never really felt like I've really improved. The reason for this I believe is a lack of structure to my practice - I noodle about playing the same old riffs... That is why I'm determined to follow the structured learning paths even if it means I'm covering some stuff I'm already comfortable with.

Loving the all the great lessons and advice on guitartricks. Good luck with your continued learning. Shine on :-)

Lol Istanbul,

We should jam together maybe we will improve drammatcly.

I'm exactly like you, I can play but I don't feel I'm moving to the next step, and you are right following the tutorial on GT will help up I'm sure about that.

Problem with me is that I'm 53 years young with a 4 years daughter and I can only practice between 10:00 PM and 12:00 AM and I have a full time job, so focusing during these 2 hours is a bit though but then again as I said earlier I'm determinated.

Good luck to you as well never give up, and we will have a great gig in the sky.
