Stuck on playing...need help!!! S.O.S
Ok I have been playing or started playing guitar 10 years ago...Now I wanna to really learn how to play and I am willing to practice 2 hours a day ... The problem I got into is: I can play scale fairly fast, I can hold most chord, I can read tab pretty well, I can sweep although it is not very articulated and I can play few intro pretty well....the problem is that I am stuck I find myself playing the same CRAP over and over..when I dont have my guitar and I hear a good riff, I can sing some note improvised that could sound well with the tune...but as soon as I hold my guitar all the melodies are gone and I sound like CRAP..I have been practicing all the mode and know them all pretty and can pretty much move up and down the neck quite fast but that all I can do...That sucks after a while...I am not going anywhere..what do I need to do to get to the next level???? is there some secret techniques that I dont know about or some specific lessons that I need in order to sound good with my guitar..I have never been able to play a whole song..just part of it..for some reason...AM I the only one to have that problem or we all go thru this???

When I was in your shoes, I swallowed my pride and went down to the local music store and took some lessons.
Opened my playing right up !
Or have you thought about trying to learn some new styles, just as an academic exercise ?

If i wasn't drugged up on codine right now I would probably give you a better answer...Do what Dr.Simon said..Go get some music lessons..the teachers can give you some insight from their past experiences and another thing..explore new stuff...Like if you only listen to metal or rock..give classical music a chance or flamenco or even jazz..

Thank for the replies, F#%&*ck!!!! I was afraid that was what you all were going to say...I guess I know that I really need to take lessons now but kept thinking that I could do without....its like you know you need to do your home work if you wanna have good grade but you keep wishing there was an easier way....and you look hard for it and all the time you spend looking for it, you could have done the right thing already.....

Im in the same shoes as u are lumsage. :(
But i've only been playing for abt 2 years or so. I wonder if there are self learning materials which are useful for me to advance by myself..

This reminds me of my biggest guitar-playing "rut". I was totally stuck "inside-the-box", meaning that I knew only one shape for a given scale/mode. I've been working on memorizing all the notes on the fretboard (as opposed to just the E string) and it has really opened my playing up.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Here is a great video for learning blues songs... Warner Bro. Song Xpress Classic Blues Vol.3 Learn to play! Song covered... "BEFORE YOU ACCUSE ME,"
"LIE TO ME," "MARY HAD A LITTLE LAMB," "SPOONFUL." I've just learned
the first two songs. I would advise this for a beginner guitar player who can play open chords and barre chords easily. The songs are broke down and easily covered. Screen shots of hand and chords and tab are easily shown. I find these video help when I'm in a rut.
