Metallica-led zepplin

i have questioned this before, was led zep more popular than metallica?? Or possibly sabbath/ozzy??

Well, its hard to say. Led Zep are rock legends and well Metallica, they have tons of fans (too bad they are all drugies and beer brains). As far as guitar goes, I think Jimmy Page is AWSOME and could mop the floor with Kirk's long curly hair, though everyone plays Metallica songs cause Kirk Hammet shreds.(im not saying its bad .... so dont get the wrong idea)

It's hard to compare a band like metallica with Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin is in a league of its own. I mean, Metallica's had some decent albums, but Led Zeppelin is legendary.

yeah led zeppelin revolutionzed heavy metal, they are the kings. iam not really a metallica fan.

Uhh...Zeppelin is hard rock. Not heavy Metal.

hmmm no comparison really especially when you consider all the styles and beautiful songs (the rain song, oh my god!) zeppelin played and compare it to mettalicas insesent chugging. i reckon they are far more popular than mettalica

hmm...probably Zepplin cause they're legends. you ask almost any guitarist who isnt an idiot who Page is and they can tell you. Also, since school of rock came out people probably listened a little to Zepplin more. Black's pitch to the guys trying to get them to let the movie use immigrant song was funny. all should see it.

Led Zeppelin are definately more famous, who hasn't heard of stairway to heaven or whole lotta love?

However, i'd much rather Kirk Hammet taught me the guitar than Jimmy Page. Have you heard Jimmy Page solo recently? Apart from his recorded versions I'd say he's an awful lead guitarist. Around 80% of the notes he hits are dead or buzzing, you could argue it's because he spends most of the shows improvising his solo's, but I wouldn't say thats any excuse. If he wasn't the guitarist from the yardbirds or led zeppelin then he wouldn't be rated half as good of a guitarist. Kirk Hammet isn't exactly a guitar god either, but at least he doesn't sound like he's been playing for 2 months when he solo's.

Obviously that's just my opinion and im sure it will vary somewhat from everyone elses. (More along the lines of everyone will complain that I just said Jimmy Page sucks)

led zepplin is legend and will NEVER be forgotten. As for Mettalica they're really good to but not as legendary as led zepplin but i agree i wud rather learn from kirk than jimmy .They both have sum pretty sik solos but ive heard more mettalica and those are sum pretty awsum solos. But im still yung and i think every solo is awsum. now im just confusing myself so im gonna stop typing.its kinda hard to compare 2 great bands like that. or i think....i dunno im confused

I agree with you man, Jimmy is quite sloppy live. Kirk Hammet DOES hit every note on his solos, a good percent of the time ( even tho i could :) ). But generally it comes down to, Led Zeppelin can write much better songs than Metallica. I mean look at some of the classics they they have wrote. But Metallica, They WERE great, but i think they will be forgotten. Poeple will never forget Led Zeppelin.

Oh yeah and ezmoney, you know without Led Zeppelin there porbabaly wouldnt be the kind of heavy metal there is today. They inspired alot of people. So what you said earlier could work too.
