Howdy..
I received this question by email recently
Anybody got any suggestions for him?
I figure I owe an answer since somebody actually spelled my name right for a change :)

Mucho thanks.

Question is shown below
Hi, Schmange! Could you recommend instrumental guitar blues songs (the one
where the guitar is doing leads in the whole song, you know...) for a
beginner to medium guitarist?

Something that doesn't require advanced techniques (tapping, tremelo,
shred, etc...). Just slides, hammer-on and pull-offs... (but if there are
some advanced techniques but it isn't that hard, it's fine for me)

I like to train myself in doing lead guitar stuff but then most of the
songs I hear in the radio are sooo fast.... thanks, Schmange!

BB King - Sweet Sixteen, The Thrill Is Gone, etc.

can't seem to think of any other easy blues songs... Led Zeppelin keeps popping in my head, though, like Since I've Been Loving You, You Shook Me, I Can't Quit You Baby.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

ALL generalizations are WRONG

I would say that along with some songs you should tell this guy to try a little improvising...

Thats what most blues players would do here anyways.

Your pretty experienced with midi.... maybe some chord backing tracks of simple shuffle progressions? I can make em too if need be.
There are only two important things in life - There's music and theres girls, not necessarily in that order....

You're all wrong. lol. He wants *instrumental* blues songs...for beginner to medium players. Well, here are some songs that medium players can work on:

SRV:
-Soul To Soul
-SRV's rendition of Little Wing
-Lennie

and almost anything by Roy Buchanan

Man, you're not going to find too many beginner to medium guitarists doing blues instrumentals.

What he has to do is just plain listen to blues tunes, they've all solos in them. If he needs a list of artists i can start him off right here:

Albert Collins
Freddie King
Gary Moore
Howlin Wolf
John Lee Hooker
Johnny Winter
Albert King
Otis Rush
Little Milton
T-bone Walker
Muddy Waters
B.B. King
Jimi Hendrix
Robert Johnson
Sonny Landreth
Eric Clapton
SRV
Bo Diddley
Buddy Guy

Oldies but goodies baby! Gotta go back to the roots if you don't want a watered down version.

what about pointing the kid to the jam tracks on this site? Let him grab a pent scale sheet and a basic 1,4,5 backing track and have fun!
