If im doing different tunings I usually just make sure my guitar is perfectly in tune, then tune to the note I want on another string.

So if you want the G string an octave up for example, just tune to the 8th fret on the B above, or the 3rd fret on the high E. Just the same for any other string you want to retune, just find the octave above on another string.

Or you could just find the note on a tuner and do it one octave higher by ear, thats probably easier.

Why would you want to do that? I think that it might do some damage to either the strings or the guitar, if all 6 were an octave up...

But, then again, I think Nashville tuning uses 3 thin strings that are an octave up.

Instead of tuning from the 5th fret, tune using the 17th. Try that. Let us know what happens.
... and that's all I have to say about that.

I feel a broken string coming on... Thin metal wire travelling at a high velocity can be painful... be careful!

i doubt that it is possible to tune any string on the guitar one OCTAVE up - they´ll snap. i tried to tune the high E-string to an A, which is by far not an octave and it snapped at G#...
