I was recently checking out the local guitar shops trying to find a new amp. The salesman that approached me was a short, muscular guy who looked about 40 years old. I told him I was in the market for a new amp and he proceeded to tell me how good the 5150 was. In the midst of all this babbling he actually asked me a question. He asked, "So what type of music do you listen to,". I told him that the amp was for a metal band I was joining, but I prefer to listen to instrumental. Such as Satch and Vai. "Really," he said. "You know Eddie is a lot more of an emotional player and has a lot more soul than Vai,". I laughed, shrugged, and proceeded to tell him that that was his own opinion and it didn't really matter to me because I still prefer to listen to Vai. He then looked at me and said, "Hey, it's cool. But I've seen Eddie play before and he's way better than Vai, that's all,". This was imediately followed by me walking out of the store saying, "Nice sales pitch *@$@%*&$%*@,"!

Well, that's the funny part actually. There's a lot of music stores where I live but that's the only place that sells Peavey.

BadHorsie;
If you just gotta go Peavy, there's gotta be another dealer somewhere nearby.

Hey, you can't slam Peavey too hard- their Ciruss Basses beat up on about anything not made by Carl Thompson fairly effectively. And they're (relatively) unexpensive.

*I've owned my share of Peavey Amps and even owned a T-60 back in '76.....It was just that once I dee-scovered tube amps (Albiet my Valvestates are "only" pre-amp tubed), I never looked back.....I play heavy distortion most of the time and the peavey stuff was ALWAYS VERY reliable, but most of the time I was playing at low volumes for practicing....Once I got up on stage and needed the output, the solid-state stuff was just plain garbage and the tone was....well....tinny....PLEASE NOTE: It is NOT my objective to put ANYBODY'S stuff down or act like I'm ALL THAT.....I'm just a regular guy who cranx the tube stuff :D....My suggestion to future stage rockers: WORK HARD, SAVE MONEY and buy the stuff that will last you...Do it piece by piece if you have to....Dreaming and realizing/achieving goals enhances self-worth and instills a sense of pride...This will carry with you for the rest of your life :) ROCK ON !!!!! :D:D:D

So what's your view on the 5150 Lee? I read that you don't think it has a good low end, but what else is so bad about it? After all that is why I started this thread.

The 5150 sounds very thin to me.
What happened to all that rackmount gear you had? And the Blue Voodoo?

*There seems to be a general consensous that:

1. The 5150 has GOBS of gain
2. Has a cheesey clean channel
3. Benefits GREATLY from a set of decent tubes (Especially on the low end)
4. Is noisey in the studio

*All that being said, on a personal note, I LOVE THE GAIN, can deal with the re-tube and screw the clean channel, BUT I HATE NOISE !! (Your mileage may vary :D )

*When I factored all these things in (INCLUDING RE-SALE VALUE), I wasn't that far away from a Marshall unit, price wise......
*Turn the bastard up and see what happenz.... :D
