Im mostly impressed by guys who can play real fast chickin pickin stylee. This style is much more tricky to get right than standard shredding, esp when playing melodies with the fingers while simultaneously crosspicking bass line runs with a thumbpick. Jerry Donahue of the Hellecasters is mightily impressive and Albert Lee just sizzles.

AndrƩ Olbrich in "Blind Guardian"

He has his own style. Acctaully the one who made take the decision to start play guitar. A very underestimated guitarist, a underestimated singer/songwriter (Hansi KĆ¼rsch) and a underestimated band.

Here Here! Well said, i love Olbrich and i try to incorporate some of his style into my playing and Kursch is my favorite singer/songwriter

but to answer the question, i would say ALeksi Laiho. he's so fast and more important extrememly clean in his playing. trying to hard to get that cleanliness into my playing. just amazing
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

im going with Alexi Laiho too,his speed, over the top solos and how they do they guitar/keyboard dual things, thats some awsome talent. Alexi makes most of the meterial for CoB and the rest of the guys are just his players.

Underestimated band? Guardian is dealt as germanyĀ“s TOP metal act! they even where considered as a possible choice for the LOTR soundtrack.

I really should listen to some Blind Guardian. I would have to say at the moment Alexi Laiho has one of my favourite styles of playing at the moment. I guess its what i want to sound like. I love the really cool heavy riffs and the soloing is very neoclassical which i also really like.
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

Frank Gambale... Steve Morse... Shawn Lane... Allan Holdsworth...

Something in between all that.

Slash, Zakk Wylde, and SRV all combined together would be my favorite style.

i reckon that joe walsh and don felder's style in the eagles classic hotel california is sweet, especially at the solo at the end, they intertwine perfectly. but angus young's(AC/DC)is wicked. he is way too under-rated.
lyrics-wasted time between solos.

Guardian is my absolute favorite band. olbrich and marcus siepen are amazing. can't wait for their DVD to come out.

my favoriet guitarist though is laiho, fast and extremely clean. he has an excellent sense of of the music, his solos always fit the song.

Probably Marty Friedman. His mix of Classical Japanese and Speed Metal is quite entertaining.

It would have to be bettween Blackmore or Vaughn. I like Blackmore's sence of fusing Metal and Blues and SRV's way of a distorted Blues with affection

I don't know if this guy is all that well known but I'd have to say that I am quite impressed with Travis Nevels. He totally broke out of the mold of playing a style and just plays them all. He plays what is known as American Freestyle Guitar. Everytime I listen I hear some different style or influence. He incorporates blues, classical, flat pickin, banjo rolls and you name it, it's in there. You can hear some of his stuff at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nevels
