EQ after/before an Overdrive Pedal

I've been reading up and it seems most guitarists put an EQ first thing in their chain. However I've seen a few that put it after an overdrive/distortion pedal. What do you think gives the best sound out of the EQ?

Before / after will give you a very different sound however ultimately there is no right or wrong answer.

It just depends on what sort of sound you want !

I just read a huge article (it was linked to somewhere on this forum) on Amptone.com that said that you should actually have [u]two[/u] EQs; one first thing after your guitar (I think) and one after your preamp. Something like that.

Mind you, I don't even have one EQ.

I used to have a Boss GE7. It was Ok with some pedals / amps and horrible (tones of noise) with others. I once tried it with an OD20 and it very nearly made all my teeth fall out ! Horrible !!!!

It found its way into the "recycle via the local guitar store" pile after that !

I love amptone.com and ya I've read all that stuff on EQ-ing. I only have one EQ right now, so I'm trying it as first thing after my guitar and last thing in the chain, staying out of the loop right now. I was considering the BOSS as my second EQ for some different sounds, but I guess they all pretty much sound the same. Maybe I'll just get another MXR, maybe look at the 10band.
