By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

I wonder who would be said to have the fastest hands in guitar playing today? Pantera's guitarist is pretty fast, i think i saw in a mag once that he was said to be one of the fastest. But theres so many.

Not even close. The last measurement of speed was recorded by the Guiness Book of World Records and went to Marcus Paus.

They don't do that anymore because it's ever changing.

There are tons of speed freaks out there these days.

Hehe, i knew someone would comment on that. Yep i was being sarcastic. Marcus pause is very fast. Would like to have seen him play because its hard just to imagine him playing that fast when you are just listning to an mp3

1. The Kingston Trio
2. The Cowsills (Hair / The Flower Girl ....remember those hopin' tunes from 1968 ? )

3. The Monkees....nobody could pick like Mike Nesmith. He was the teenie bopper answer to Jimmy Hendricks !

4. Dino, Desi & Billy...."Hollywood Kids Garage Band"
Dean Martin, Jr., Desi Arnez & friend Billy (who later was organist for Beach Boys)

5. The Hondells..."Hit song was "Little Honda" from '62.
Takes me back to when I dated my "best girl" on my Honda Trail 90.

6. Brian Hyland Combo....(saw him in person in summer of 1964. "Itzie Bitsie Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"...was "high" on that song all summer !

7. Frank Sinatra, Jr....Frank, Sr's boy had a semi big hit with "Everybody's Twistin'". I have the 45 ! Sadly, he was later kidnapped, but was released...THANK GOODNESS !!!!

8. Pat Boone..."Love Letters In The Sand" Don't remember this great love tune, but Mommy & Dad used to talk about it and I became a Pat Boone fan.

9. Peter, Paul & Mary...."Smooth sounds" of these legends gets me "high on life" !!!!!

10. John Denver.....was there anyone better ? I DON'T THINK SO !!!! So hard to go on with out John ......but we must.

I may try asking his dad if he still has some old recordings of Marcus.

I'm sure someone, somewhere is faster. Just remember, someone is always better/faster/more skilled/talented/fill whatever word you'd like here/ so, I'm sure there is, he/she is just waiting to be discovered.

When I heard him play back in August, he was so mindbogglingly fast that it was simply incomprehensible.

And he told me he hadn't practiced for several years, he had just picked up the guitar for the occasion. Awesome guitarist, whether he's fastest or not. Too bad most people have only heard his playing when he was with Mr. Cucumber.
