how does one go about in finding a band if he/she is new to an area and knows absolutely no one?

Make a lot of friends. Really fast. :)

I dunno. I've seen people put up fliers here at my college looking for band members, I dont' know if that would work in whatever your current situation is, but it might. Or, if the local store is the type people hang around at, you could see who goes there and strike up conversations with people who look like they know what they're doing. Or you could look out for bands in local clubs/pubs who seem to be missing something see if they're looking for more members. There are a lot more lonely 1-3 member bands out there than most people think.

i'm relocating to chicago, so i'm sure there are plenty of 'local' stores to find others.

just out of curiousity, what's the down side to responding to the flyers?

There aren't really any, depending on the people. YOu can run into some wierd people in this industry.

I was just thinking that there might be some situations where it wouldn't be the best idea, like wallpapering a new high school or place of employment.

where in chicago?

To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

ah, when i'm home from school i live in the suburbs or chicago. but if your at a college, it won't be hard. just put up ads all over the place. then go around to some of the clubs and stores all around downtown and post ads there

Take out ads in the paper and state your situation. Or find out where the music junmies hang out and see if anyone needs a band member.
If I leave here tomorrow,
Will you still remember me?
