Kirk Hammet is pretty tasteless. The guy from Anthrax wasn't all that.Tom Morello I like his band Audioslave now but his solos I never liked. And IMO Dimebag Darrels tone is god awfull most of the time.
As far as the eruption thing goes thats not a guitar solo its a solo spot."Its just a bunch of techniques"thats what its sposed to be!!Its his highlight spot!!In 1978 you name somebody else who could play like that it certainly wasn't Randy Bachman.
Lets talk underated guitar players:
I vote for the guy in the Cars and the lead guitarist from Heart.

I can't think of her name right now, but the guitarist in Heart is pretty good. Good acoustic stuff especially.

most overrated solo's.. hmm... all of kirk hammets solos !!
By virtue of their electrical properties, tubes generate a special waveform when they're saturated, which is why tube engineering has tremendous tonal advantages over solid state or DSP solutions, particularly for crunch and lead sounds. Tubes enter the saturation zone gradually or softly, which lends tube-driven tone its trademark yet totally unique character.

lol! First off dumb topic. Smells like teen spirit. i think is good, one for the reason kurt wasnt a guitarist, he just played what he heard. i dont think he was trying to be make the best solo, he just made a song, and actually he hated teen spirit the most out of all his songs. he didnt like the credit he got for it. Screw techical stuff, like eddie, it should all be abuot emotion. id like to see have of you make a song and a "incredible solo" if you want to call it that, and actually get sucess. none of you have achieved ****. we could sit here bashing everyeones soloes to your taste but that really isnt the point of music. just feel and play and what comes out, as long as its pure emotin and feeling all that should matter. how would you like if u wrote a soul from your heart , imrpov whatever, and then someone is like that sucks i could do better. blame the public or people like you for making it overrated. just listen and enjoy the feeling they give.

is there even such a thing as overrated or is it just the case of being over exposed and over commercialized- you know, at first, solo's most unique thing ever heard, then after too much publicity and the song being played over and over- the solo's been heard so many times that people just become sick and tired of it because it has become a common thing.
"Lets seeā€¦ well I play the guitar and when I'm not playing the guitar, I think about playing the guitar. My other favorite instrument, is the guitar and if I aspired to play any other instrument, it would be the guitar...

I canā€™t sing so I sing through my guitar. So when the sound guy says: ā€œYour guitar is too loud!ā€ I think: "Why does he never say that to the vocalist?"

i think you didnt understand what i wrote.

"id like to see some of you make a song and a "incredible solo" if you want to call it that, and actually get sucess.(meaning how are going to bash a song, when your not doing anything better, at least they all got somewhere with music, dont hate hehe) none of you have achieved ****. we could sit here bashing everyeones soloes to your taste but that really isnt the point of music. just feel and play and what comes out, as long as its pure emotin and feeling all that should matter" so you can play fast as you want, technical, i was just saying when it all comes down to it, its got to have soul, i was actually replying to earlier EVH posts. I was also saying enjoy music, as long as its got passion.

There's not a doubt in my mind that many of the members right here on guitartricks are lightyears better than anything on MTV and the radio. The problem with your argument is that you assume there's some sort of correlation between musical talent and mainstream success, when in fact, no such relationship exists. Just look at Smashmouth for Christ's sake.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Neil22 you dont know what your talking about. Loads of people have made amazing solo's actually and some people on this forum have acutually achieved a lot. I think a lot of people on this forum are far better than most mainstream guitarist that are said to be good !

Lemme get this if were not on MTV we can't be any good or at least as good as the pros??
One question:Have you every been to Nashville Tenn?
Commercial success has nothing to do with musical abilitie. It has to do with song writing, originality and sometimes just being in the right place at the right time. And according to the music in the past 10 yrs I think it has to do with who you are Blo*ing too,j/k.
Just because you name ain't on guitar player mags and you didn't get a plaque from britney spears at an MTV awards don't mean ****.Theres plenty of guys walking the streets that have played professional that you don't evan know about.
Everyone starts out were weare at now in the bars and clubs. As a matter of fact a freind of mine has done session work with a big nation act,he told me the day the record went #1 the singer was still hanging drywall at work.
And lastly what makes you so sure there are no big name players here??

To sum it up... talent doesnt sell... kids my age just want to hear whats simple... or what the other kids listen to... and thats the only reason why linkin park and good charlotte r popular.

Im 13... and the kids in my grade are assholes... If the kool kid started listening to dream theater... so would everyone esle... get my point.

1) kids only listen to whats kool
2)kids want to hear simple music

(not me tho)

If you put your music out on the market I've got every right to analyse it and critique it. This is only one thread. We don't sit around putting down other musicians on a regular basis, the majority of it is praise. If you've never put down any music ever in your life then I guess you can tell us to repent but if you have I'm still not going to pull out them nails, just let you hang.

over-rated: Eric Clapton! Slow hands is apt.
If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?

I'll belittle an artist if I know he/she is cheating.
