For the big 80s hair metal tone you'll prolly want a JCM800 with a ada MP1 preamp infront.
The AVTs are good amps ut are still solid state and can't quite hit the true dynamics aof a true tube amp.
The vintage non-master volume heads are the best sounding Marshalls of all time but have to be cranked to overdrive um.These are among the loudest amps of all time.PS you ill be booted outta the bar befor you ever get the thing up to 10.
The JCMs are about the best happy medium. The 2000s are good the DSL is a good head the Tsl is non or was for problems. The JCM 900s are for the most part not what you want they use a solid state gainstage in the preamp.Allthough the JCM900 SL-Xs are all tube. The JCM800s are my fav though they have the truest overdrive but need to be loud to get um goin as they are not high gain.
Certiied Stratocaster NUT!!
