rage did break up but I hear they are going to carry on w/o the original singer.

Anyway, my fav group (one of many) is Praxis. Check out their legendary album "Transmutation"

Yeah ratm rocked imop. I didn't know they were going to carry on without the vocalist, that's great news, although it won't be the same I bet.

Some alternative bands I like:
Smashing Pumpkins

Hello, what going on? I'm a new member and i'm still trying to figure out this site. This is by far, the best guitarist
web site i have ever seen. I wish i would have had this site when i was first learning how to play guitar. If there are any Torontonians around, give me an e-mail. later

METALLICA

Because they have been around since the early 80s, and are still around, they have 10 albums, and Kirk Hammett is the best guitarist who ever lived.

Some of my other favorites include AC/DC, Godsmack, Megadeth, etc...

See ya later!

I must say that although I'm not very much into the combination of rap and metal, I must say I recognize so much potential with Rage Against The Machine, (so much raw energy that I havent seen in a long time. I really admire the fact that Tom Morello relies on his intuitive knowledge instead of catering to whats considered acceptable. Its too bad they lost Zach while they're in their prime as a group, although his words can be rather annoying at times, I really can't picture this band without him, without that raw conviction...

But throughput the 90's, I must say that the "Alternative" band that influenced me the most would have to be NIRVANA. In the early 90's alot of the rock music had become rather tame and predictable, Nirvana came along at a time when musicians believed that everything had to be done a certain way in order to suceed. Nirvana broke the rules and inspired millions of bands to use their instincts, and to work their creativity for all its worth. I think alot of people really appreciated their honest approach to music, where their primary intenbtion was what they felt best constituted a good song. i think its safe to say that every serious musician really gets off on playing a few NBirvana songs every now and then, just to get their mojo going. :)

Don't get me wrong, I liked Rage Against the Machine, but I'd have to say that there was no evolution in their sound. It pretty much stayed the same. Now, toward the end their cover CD they released, Renegades, had a little more variety in sound. Battle of LA had slightly more variety (only 2 songs sounded exactly the same). Too bad they broke up a few months later. Zack De La Rocha said in interviews that he wanted to quit the band because of the lack of variety in the music and I think that's for the best. Maybe the Chris Cornell/RATM project (which I hear is getting back together) will attempt to bring more variety to the sound.

Oh yeah, and Zack De La Rocha is doing a solo record and *GASP* Trent Reznor is working with him! Here's a link to that news story.

Well I never realy went into analyzing ratm's lyrics and I don't know a thing about it. Hoewver their music makes a lot more sense than the whole neo metal gang(Stinkin Park, POD and similar)

My favorite alternative bands are Jane's Addiction, Asian Dub Foundation, 311, Primus, the Seatle bands
