Need some advice

I have been playing for 3 years now allmost. Everyone says that I am really good, but i think i suck. I will admit i can outplay some people around here where i live and went to school. I can play alot of songs, but, I want to learn more. I only don't know want to learn music wise. Everyone's like scales, and stuff but I am trying to but quit for awhile coz i don't understand it. I really love the guitar and I want to do something with it i don't want to be known as "Man, he can play a guitar" or sum **** like that. Any advice would really help me and sorry if i sound like a pest. Thanks.

You sound kinda like me.. people think am good.. but Im not really, bit of a one trick pony kinda guy. I just play wot I play well cos I dont play that much stuff! Doesnt bother me tho!
I think to excel in music you really gota check out the theory n that, scales are really easy to learn cos then are methodical and follow specific trends!

playing a guiatr isnt about how many songs you know....it's the knowledge of knowing how to play any song thats thrown in your face.

dude... you need a band.
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Just what I was thinking.

Since you don't like learning theory stuff , I suggest you try to get better with various techniques ... This will leads you to knowing more theory in the end too .

You want to be a better guitarist. Theory's too hard because you're not motivated enough or have no clue where to start. Music theory is like math or another language. You don't want to be a cool guitarist anymore, you want to be a talanted one.
Theory isn't essential but it's incredibly helpful. My recommendation a self-help instructional video or book. I can't tell you which is the best because I've only tried one - John Petrucci's rock discipline. I'm learning everything all over again myself and I freakn hate it. But what else is there to do.

I look at theory as like another tool to my playing, like trem picking, tapping, etc....
Let's say you have this awesome lick you like to play, what good is it going to do if you don't know what key you're in or what scale you're using. You write a good backing track in a certain key, then use your awesome lick over the top and finish off the solo.
That's what motivates me to expand my theory.

Well if u think ur bad... then thats just a confidence thing. But just try playin other styles. I havbe the same feelin... im like the only 13 year old in my skool who can play dream theater, slayer and, Joe satriani. But when iu get bored or want new things... i just listen to some songs and say i wanna learn that.. like someone said its not about how many songsz u can oplay but... just tryin to play anythin thrown in ur face... like yesterday i tried some stevie ray vaughn and i got it down today...
