Hello me, Meet the REAL me
Problems with pull-offs
WELL..I've been ventruing into the territory of solo's and whatnot and am wondering if i'm doing the pull-off right. When I do it i hit a string and lift my finger streight up off the string, it does'nt make much sound though, am i supposed the literally pull off the the side like an "artificial" finger-pick type deal or what. :D

Hmmm...your interest is guitar, you have over 50 post here, and you can't do pull-offs??
Just kiddin' :-)
Yes, pull the string/note, that you just hammered, off in a downward motion, so it kind of snaps. Be careful not to pull to far or you'll hit other strings or cause string buzz on lower strings. Really, just practice a little more on trills, it shouldn't take more than half an hour of practice to get your pulls and hammers right. The real workout first starts when you want to use all 4 fingers for pulls/hammers with equal strenght and sound. Practice trills in all sorts of fingercombos with a metronome.
Don't forget the pinky, this sucker demands the most exercise!

Just learn to practice slowly, that is if you want efficient results. With trills practice them slowly at first, making sure not to tense the muscles in your left forearm. Relax and concentrate on your finger doing the hammer-onpull-off motion, as that is where you need to develop the strength. Use a metronome, and practice the move a little faster each day.
