Can anyone tell me what the best pedal for doing harmony's is? I tried the Boss super shifter but it dosent seem to "meet my standards". please tell me there is a better one out there that dosent make it sound so much like an effect, you know, sound more like like guitars are actually playing together. thanks.

Maybe a delay pedal set so the delay is right after the player strikes a note, that way the delay is right after and it soudns like 2 people are playing.

I think he's looking more for an actual harmonizer pedal. Can't say I've ever tried one that was worth using, but I haven't checked out any new equipment in the last few years. I'm sure all the main manufacturers like Boss etc.. must have em listen on their websites if they have them. The only way you're going to really know if it's good enough for your own playing is to actually test one out.
Personally I've always found other ways to achieve the same effect like the delay pedal thing or just getting your drummer to play to a click track and record the audio parts in a sequencer or use a midi file with a guitar simulation sound.
The main problem with harmonizer pedals is they always harmonize by a specific amount like 1/5th etc..
and whenever a guy gets one he feels like it has to be used in every song.
It's kind of like wah pedals. They should only be used sparingly to improve a solo rather than using them to show off. It's better to be known for your playing than the nifty pedals you use.
How's that for a whole bunch of unwanted advice :)

well.. my boss ME50 has this feature - diatonic harmonization - you tell the board what key you are playing in, and it harmonizes the notes accordingly. of course this will never replace a real second harmony guitar. its far more interresting (and way cheaper) to find a real guitarrist to play along with and write some interresting (unpredictable) harmony-lines

I have the same Boss Harmonizer in my GT-3 ... It's cool , but it can't do everything.

Most pros have these "Eventide" Harmonizers in their racks ... Bad thing , they're over $3000 !!!

Thanks, for the advice. I dont wanna show off, thats somthing i am very much against. I just think harmonizing sounds great and can be very powerful way to "move" a listener. And not just use it in solos but in rythms as well, if youve ever heard Thrice then youll know what i mean. Yes, i'd love for my other guitar player to be able to harmonize with me but he plays rythms and stuff. And the bass player cant play the rythms he plays on guitar... There just not as meledodic and heavy.. You know... Oh well, I will find a way! Thanks.

Check out the Digitech Whammy pedal... has some pretty cool harmony options, and you can switch between 5ths, 4ths, etc. with the expression pedal.

... and that's all I have to say about that.

So the Eventides are really good for Harmonizing? I saw one on Half.com for like $1,000. Too bad i need to get a faustex first for my recordings. For the mean time ill just harmonize by doubling guitars on the 8 track im get. But this eventide intrigues me. What exactly does it do?

Eventide makes few different rack models , I think they're all over the $2000 range ... Perhaps you may find one of these used for less than $1000 .
I recall that one of their products (I think it was "Orville" or "Eclipse") was about $4000 .

Don't think of getting one if you're not seriously into harmonizing , or you have some money to waste.

BTW , John Petrucci has got almost all of their product !

Have the 'Voodoo Labs' proctavia/octavia(something like that)pedal a listen...go for the Digitech whammy if youve got the money, but the Voodoo labs pedal is a bit less.I will safely assume you dont have and extra $2000+ laying around for an eventide harmonizer...and if you do,then poop on you!

Later! \m/

I have a Korg PX4, and while it might not be a pedal, it does a great job at harmonizing(as long as your playing is consistent).

I can get a pretty good harmonizing effect out of my old peice Digitech Rp-6.

You could probably find one of those on ebay for about $40 or so.
