yup, but thats kind of wierd for us swedes.
He was actually born Yngve johan malmsteen (a common name here in sweden), wich is pronouced a bit differently!

But when he moved to the us he changed his name, or more correct, the pronoucation of his name!

But now he only wants to be called "ingvay", I have actually heard of a guy at a pressconference that called him yngwie(pronouced the swedish way), and that yngwie got so mad he left directly, without taking any more questions! =)

Heh, I've heard some great pronounciations.

Those include something like.

'ingeway'
'newy'

And of course the swedish sounds weird to me, but only because I've been hearing "Ingvay" for a long time.

Man I remember someone, I think Ozzy, called him Wingnut Einstein because he couldn't say his name
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

well its hard to explain how we pronounce it in sweden, that sound is never heard in english, perhaps you know of the german "ü" as in über=) thats how the first letter "y" is pronouncedn then the "ng" is the same is in Ingvay, but the last "e" in Yngve is pronounced like a fast "eh" as in echo.
So it would look something like this if I would write it:
"üngveh"
bah...perhaps you get it.

I also wonder why he get so pissed about people calling him
"üngveh" instead of Ingvay. I guess it has something to do with the fact that he wants to leave everything about sweden behind...or something..=)

I wish I spoke swedish and lived in sweden(or poland...but thats polish)everyone over out in the euro area is so endowed with artistic/music ability and are generaly nice...no doubt a better overall enviroment then America.Everyone has great jobs,a nice guitar collection, loves metal/classical music, has romantic love affairs with beautiful firery red haired maidens and a view of the alps.
(all the above is obviously not true, but wouldnt it be nice?)

Later! \m/

Air - Great Explanation , I guess it's pretty clear to me already.

One thing ... the "U" , is it pronounced slow as in Unique (yonic) , or fast as in german , like Unser (onser) . (Don't worry , I'll add the umlaut ;) )

No, it's more like the German word "über" - wow, hard to explain the pronunciation online... you really have to know the language
"You must stab him in the heart with the Bone Saber of Zumacalis... well, you could stab him in the head or the lungs, too... and the saber, it probably doesn't have to be bone, just anything sharp lying around the house... you could poke him with a pillow and kill him."

Actually it is the last name that is the most mispronounced. Malmsteen is not pronounced like mallmsteen, it is pronounced (moul)msteen. I was surprised by this, when the man himself scolded me on this in jest.

well actually its not pronounced like that either:p
the first malm is pronounced like everyone says it, but the "steen" sounds more like a long eehh like in eruption, not an "ee" sound.
This is his real name : Yngve Malmsten , altho he never uses it.
