Just wondering what gauges all you guys use. I personally use 0.11/0.48. I was looking on ebay the other day n found some GHS custom Zakk Wylde strings. The gauge was 0.11/0.60, now I think that would be a bit too much. I tried a 0.52 once on the low E and found that a waaaaaay too heavy gauge.

I use regular slinkys, there 10s, and sometimes top heavy slinkys, theyre 10s but with thicker bass strings.
I would never go below 10s.

I use the ernie ball super slinkys... for some reason I just don't agree with a heavy gauge string.. odd because I try to play SRV'ish and he plays (played) tuned down 1/2 a step with extra heavy strings....

the thing is to find what feels good when you bend, strum, whatever... took me a while to realize that to emulate I don't have to completely imitate them... also, the guitar may not be setup for different gauge strings. check the book that came with it or ask the guitar dude in your local music store..

when I first tried the heavy gauge strings on my strat..let me just tell you, it went over like a fart in church!

I've been using the 0.11s for some 4 years now and feel very comfortable with them. I'm considering using 10s or 9s on the trebble strings and stickin with the 0.11s on the bass end just to try it. Any thoughts on this?

actually yeah - I think it's a good idea..

for me the light strings give me a little more range in playability.. the only problem I've had so far with light strings is that I had lent my tuner to a buddy who left it set to C instead of D ( what I usually tune to ) and I broke about 4 b strings until I figured out what the problem was...

yeah - I'm an ass... =)

I was using 9's for a long time since vibrato/bends were easier.Ive since moved to 10's and I find the tone to be much more 'solid' and sustain a bit better...everything just sounds sweeter.
A guy at my local music store suckerd me into buying a some "musicians planet" strings as they were only $3.00 a set.He said "I strung up the telecaster over there you were playing with them" and the tele I had been playing did feel great.Well I went home and started stringing up my axe. When I was stretching out the G string the ball end flew right off...then the B string did it too.Thats the last time I buy budget strings...beware of budget strings.
The price tag for Elixers is well worth it.

had the same problem with a box o' dean markleys... they were in the bilk discount items.. I now own over 20 sets of strings that I wouldn't use to choke my mother in law with! ..... well, maybe

I like the elixr's and the D'Addario exps.. have those on my takamine GS330S and they're schweet! I think the only difference between the elixr's and Daddarios is the way their coated.. 1 is coated before winding and the other after.. don't remember which is which tho..

Do you use ernie ball strings? Cos the top heavy slinkys do what you described, 10s on treble and heavier on bass.
Ive never tried 11s... I wonder how different theyd be to 10s.. but am too scared to change anything right now!
