It's gotta be when it excludes Vai, Morse, Satch, Eric Johnson, Petrucci and includes Joan Jett, Thurston Moore, Johnny Ramone & George Harrison. Even Eddie VH come in at a paltry #70!

I wont bother with the 'each to their own it's all relative' speech, just get staight to urging the moderators to lock this post and swallow the key. Rolling Stone's poll should not make the slightest bit of difference to anyone. My favourite player's not even on there but that doesn't change my opinion whatsoever.
Fruitbat, have you heard or even HEARD OF all the guitarists on that list?

Fruitbat, have you heard or even HEARD OF all the guitarists on that list? And correct me if I'm blind but I cant find Vai, Satch or Petrucci on there anywhere. You don't tell us who you would choose or how you would change the list, but then why should we care anyway?

.............Im not going to even bother..

That list is complete bull****. How is Jack White a better guitar player than Micheal Bloomfield or Mark Knopfler, or Van Halen. Who made this list anyway??I think they deserve a swift kick in the rear.

I don't think anyone should care. People are different, opinions are different.
But I do agree that it is stupid that Joan Jett was on there...and Jack White should be like...#100 any higher and this top guitarists list was not done by guitarists............Maybe drummers?

Yeah, that list blows.
Leaving off greats, and going with "mainstream" punks is not necessary.

Well that makes me really happy, cause I hate all those guys and I think that they are really not interesting musicians in year 2003. Thats my opinion you don't need to agree...

I agree with Slow Driver; Nobody gives a sh|t about Steve Vai, except guitarists themselves. Yeah, he can play fast; big deal. Speed isn't everything.

Yes, but Joan Jett?!?!?
I mean if you're going to compile a list of the 100 best guitarists, I think you should include SOME of the best.

The list just proves how much music critics really know about music...
I mean come on... Ed Van Halen at #70... He has inflenced generations of guitarists... some of whom are probably higher up on the list than he...

Vai's music isn't about speed at all ... actually I find lots of his stuff boring and slow !!
But I agree that no body gives a crap about instrumental music in general other than musicians themselves.

That's interesting because most of the stuff I've heard of his involves Dive Bombs, shredding, and repetitive sounds.

I remember as a guitar kid I used to think that these polls and ranking of guitarist were something official and real like in sports or something ! LOL :D
I started to realize that these lists in guitar magazines have nothing to do with anything musical .
I strongly remeber in the millenium poll by guitar one magazine (or guitar world?) , Kurt Cobain ranked no7 , while EVH was no 8 ... People like Kirk Hammett , Marty Friedman , Malmsteen , Slash , etc. ranked from 30's to 80's ... The list also inluded many grunge/punk/alternative guitarists (and those who only use the EAD strings exclusively!) in positions prior to those.
Now , I only read those polls to make fun of them . ;)

Incidents Happen - Yeah dude , his music is mostly pretty bizarre and freaky .
I can recomend few tracks I think you may find intresting to try : for the love of god , bad horsie , tender surrender. :)

If the list was accurate, it would include Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, and Wes Montgomery.
