Hahaha now why is George Harrison's inclusion so outrageous??

He was only the guitarist with the most successful band in history, and has only influenced millions of guitarists since with his distinctive style. Talentless!

i'd have to agree with Karma, George Harrison is one of the most influental guitarist around. During his solo career he wrote some of the best guitar licks i have EVER heard.

no one should care about charts theure just there for more sales so ppl without the ability to think about what cd, guitar, product they want, can just look at the top 3 and have an easier life, plus those responsible for being in the top positions get more sales and fame. hence why all charts ae bull...

cus the good stuff is for ppl who look for it. same reason why theres relativley no good rock bands around. everything has a stupid market niche and im ok with that, but dont mix it with the good stuff. U should be glad that the good guitarists werent mentioned cus its a stupid chart anyway.

its sick i know but no one cares and no one will, all u have to do is - not read or watch or pay any attention to these kinds of things, like ads and charts etc..
that way they go away from ur reality.

George Harrison may have WRITTEN the best licks ever, but could he play them? I think Eric Clapton's presence in the studio recording of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" says it all. George Harrison was a good COMPOSER, and a decent guitarist.
If I could be a solo...I think I'd be Eruption...

Could George play?

hahahahaha

I could fill the rest of the post up with 'ha's but it wouldnt achieve much. Yeah George could play, listen to his solo on Something, its perfect. Clapton played on While My Guitar... cos none of the other Beatles were interested and Clapton was in the studio so George asked him to play the solo. I think George played all other guitar parts and instruments on the song, which i think speaks for itself.

Something, while a beautiful solo, is not a difficult one to play. By "good guitarist" I don't mean good songwriter, I'm talking about his range as a musician. And George Harrison could NEVER play the "gently weeps" solo like Clapton.

Could you? Why would he play the solo like Eric? Its Erics, only Eric can play it the way he does. The Something solo may not be technically difficult, but the melody is beautiful, as is the tone achieved from the fingerpicking technique he used to play it. Even so, being a great guitarist is not about being technically proficient, theres plenty of 'virtuoso' guitarists out there with the musical prowess of a crow choking on a worm. Being a great guitarist is about writing and playing great music with your guitar, and theres no denying George did that.

Isnt Jack White the WORST guitarist? I have no idea why everyone is so crazy about the White Stripes, The Guitar playing sucks! And i can't stand his voice either, the drummer is'nt anything special.
And once i read in an arcticle about him and he said "I love when my guitars out of tune!" and he also said that he thought SRV sucked!.

Jack White is the guitarist for the band 'White Stripes' and personally i hate them...there so amateur yet popular (i could play better than them on both guitar and drums and look at my my popularity) hahaha and they say that SRV sucks...is this what the world of music (or even the world itself) come to?

I agree with Slow Driver; Nobody gives a sh|t about Steve Vai, except guitarists themselves. Yeah, he can play fast; big deal. Speed isn't everything.

I totally agree. I always tell people 'I love Vai's music and I'm NOT appologising for it to anyone' but if I wasn't a guitarist I doubt his name would mean anything to me - he's a musician for musicians, but I don't see this as a bad thing at all.

I've come to appreciate that although I can only listen to Vai for short periods before becoming bored and some tracks are pure shred-overkill, Vai is a brilliant theorist. The amount of studdI have leanred about music since I started to deconstruct and learn his songs is huge, it got my out of simple blues progressions, pentatonics and the kind of 3-chord-modern-rock we're seeing so much of from the likes of Blink-182 etc music like that is often uninspired and easy to write. I'm quite fond of the simple song and I love blues improvisation but when it's all simple its just as boring as it is when it's all complexity and hardcore-shred. You have to acheive a balance, and Vai gave me so much more knowledge to express myself.

In his later work I think Vai achieves a nice balance of speed and non-speed. Anyones who heard and disliked stuff like 'Blue Powder' and 'Bad Horise' and feels like giving the old shred-monger a second chance try listening to 'Dyin day' 'Hand on Heart' and 'Sisters.' If you fancy a whole album, try 'Fire Garden.'

Vai's teaching methods are worth taking a look at too....not all of his techniques work for me, but hey, don't knock it till you've tried it. :D

I e-mailed Rolling Stones magazine, expressing my opinion about the issue and asking who made the list...no reply yet, not that I was expecting one anyways.

I seriously believe that magazines make lists like this so they can get people to write dumb, angry letters in so the magazine will have funny material to publish in their next issue.

its funny too, they release like, best guitarests of the century, and than a few years later do it again, but it will be totally differnt people, i think they just pull out off the popular bowl and glue whatever they pull out on to the pages.

Who actually made the list? Was it voted for?

I think it's stupid that people like the white stripes guy is so high and people like Vai aren't even on it. I mean, some people don't like Vai's music coz alot of it is just showing off technical abilities but htf can you put people on there who aren't even as good as me and I'm a beginner!

If I made a list I wouldn't have some of the best guitarists on it like SRV etc. coz I've never heard any of his stuff but rather than put rubbish players on I'd just make the list shorter. I mean did the guy who made it do it in half an hour and couldn't think of 100 players so he started thinking of anybody who held a guitar to finish it off and then used a computer to jumble up their ranks?

Yea that list is pretty bad, but I never agree with any of those things. I mean if you look on the website has a poll of who the greatest guitar player is: Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, SRV, and Jack White? Jack White: why don't you just include the guy from Hanson in there? The White Stripes have only put out 2 albums. He doesn't belong in the top 1000. The biggest upset to me is that Jerry Cantrell isn't in there. I love that guy.

That was a guy?
I agree, Jerry should be in there.
