I’ve noticed that I practice much more consistently when I give myself a mix of exercises instead of spending the whole session on one technique. I’ll usually spend a little time on chords or scales, then work on a song or riff that I actually enjoy playing.

For those of you who have been playing for a while, how do you structure your practice sessions? Do you follow a specific routine, or just pick something depending on your mood?

I’m especially interested in how you balance technique practice with actually playing songs. Sometimes I feel like I’m making better progress when I stop worrying about whether I’m practicing the “right” thing and simply spend some time playing.

Hello Lily, I am by no means an expert but I think you're on the right track with how you practice, at least in my opinion.

I think the main thing is to keep it fun and interesting. Just doing one thing over and over gets monotonous and you can quickly lose interest.

I don't really have a "set routine" myself, but mixing things up certainly helps me keep at it longer. No matter what you chose to practice you will be incorporating what you already know into it while learning new techniques which is all good!

I'm sure other will have tips and tricks for you to try too. Just use what works best for you and have fun.
