carpal tunel
isnt it possible for a guitarist to get this from massive repition..is there any way to prevent it?
# 1
Yes, it is highly possible, and even probable, that guitarists will get it. My former guitar instructor had it, had to get his veins stripped, put back into place, etc; Luckily, he reacted immediately, saw a doctor during the first signs (hand becomes a little numb, for a short time). He plays fine now, though...
As far as preventation, it's something you really just have to watch. You can move your fingers around and your wrist in certain ways if you feel that it helps, but I can't say whether or not it does, I'm not a doctor (ask simon:D;)).

Yeah it is a possibility that you could get it, but you just have to pay attention to your hand and wrists while playing. If you ever get pain or even discomfort, quit playing for a while.
Sometimes I hit notes only dogs can hear.

I would have to say that if you're a shredder, your chances are increased more than 200%. If you have a good technique, I'd lower that to about 125%.
Usually, the signs are pretty straightforward, and you'll be able to get to a doctor in time (hopefully)!

Uhh, can someone explain what are you talking about? I have heard that if you overpractice it is possible you damage your tendons. Is it what you are talking about, or some other guitar related injury?
The world is loaded, it's lit to pop, nobody is gonna stop!

The carpal tunnel is where the tendons in your wrist pass through the bones. Some kinds of repetetive motions can cause the tendons to rub against the bone and become inflamed. This can become severe enough to require surgery. One of the most common causes is typing, which is why there are so many ergonomic keyboards, desks, and chairs for office workers.

Correct Lord, but it can also cause pain in the elbow as well. Because the same tendons and muscles that pass through the passage on your wrist (the carpal tunnel) also curl around the inside of your elbow. This is another good warning sign.
My brother just recently had surgery for this, as he was experiencing pain in his elbow and wrists. Work related so, CHACHING!! :D
