Hello, we have had guitar tricks about a month. Our son is 10 years old. You can see where he is musically on his instagram @Ivanw_music   We were attracted to guitar tricks because he has taught himself how to play with the assistance of online resources to this point, but has been stagnant a bit over the last 6 months.  He practices/plays guitar alot probably average an hour or more a day.  We are struggling to find where in guitar tricks to focus his attention so he can use the resource of information to grow. He’ll get on guitar tricks and navigate through it a while and it’s too easy for him. So he’ll jump to other things that is to hard where he doesn’t have the base he needs to follow. Requesting help. We have a kid who is very gifted, and will put in the time; but doesn’t know where to go in the program.

Hey & welcome.  I watched a couple of your son's videos.  He's doing well strumming chords in time & singing along.  Well done!

What to focus on next depends on his current skills & desired musical goals.  What style does he want to play that he can't yet?  What skills does he want to build or improve upon?

Sometimes these are difficult questions for a student to answer until they see the next thing that motivates them.  It looks like your son knows basic open chords and can strum them in time on an acoustic.  If he wants to continue with acoustic, accompanying himself to sing songs, then the Acoustic course is probably the best option.

In that course he'll be able to continue expanding his knowledge & skills on acoustic guitar by learning about different rhythms, chord embellishments, fingerpicking, some basic theory & how to adapt all those new skills to different genres.  And if he likes it, he can continue that path with Acoustic level 2.

Hope that helps.  Please ask more questions if you have them.  Best of success to you & your son!

You're welcome.  Another thought occurs to me.  Every time I've taught a young player I noticed it was helpful to tailor the curriculum to keep them engaged & motivated.  With that in mind it might be helpful to tell him to consider focusing on things he is passionate about & for the time being skip things that he don't pique his interest.

For example the chapter on fingerpicking might not be interesting right now.  And it's a skill that will require a lot of repetitious practice.  So that might be demotivating.  So skip that material for now & work on something that will motivate him to practice a lot.  For example different strumming patterns, or adding embellishments.  Eventually, if he keeps playing guitar he'll reconsider the topics he skipped & go back to them to flesh out his skills.

I think it's really important at a young age to keep kids incentivized to practice as much as possible.  Because these are his formative years any skill he develops now through dedicated practice is invaluable & irreplaceable.

Best of success.
