My all-time favorite is the 'Smoke on the Water' solo by Deep Purple. Not hard, but sounds so smooth. Any others?

Any solo by Kurt Cobain. Sounds weird, but anyone can sing them.
Also, "Hotel California" has the best damn solo ever written. Dude it has everything. Wish I had done it myself... Who can restrain from singing the final "tadada tadada tadada Weeeeeeeeee"?

Jimi Hendrix does some nice solos. Granted, some of them are fast, but they are far from shredding.

And God said, 'Let there be rock!'

All of Richie Sambora's solo's are just excellent, not super-shredding, or anything, just soul-o, comes from the heart, all great guitar players have soul.

My absolute favorite solo from any living musician is the solo from "Like a Stone" by audioslave. Tom Morello can tear up a lot of guitarists in use of effects and crazy solos. But he pours out so much soul into that solo. And I do not think it could be any more perfect.

Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan have some great solos.
Metallica's James Hetfield also did a great solo for "Nothing Else Matters". Another one would be "Mama i'm comin' home"
If I leave here tomorrow,
Will you still remember me?

SRV's Pride and Joy, a perfect solo from start to finish.
David Gilmour, probably one of the best non technical lead guitar players, Another Brick in the Wall pt.2 and Comfortably Numb come to mind as being great.

Jimi Hendrix playing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" - I'm pretty sure he didn't write it, but well played nonetheless.

What is this 'Shredding' you speak of?

Funny that Jerry Garcia and Jimi Hendrix are your two favorite guitarists; they are the opposite ends of the spectrum, Jimi being flashy and Jerry being 'down-home'.
Carlos Santana's "Europa" to me, is immaculate. Page's solo on "Stairway to Heaven" is immaculate.
Slash's solo on "Sweet Child" is also a great solo, as well as Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama". You could easily fill a list of "500 Greatest Solos" by the end of next week:D.
