I think Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" solo is pretty good for a non-shredding solo. Very soulful. Also the first solo to "Master of Puppets" is good.

Whats wrong with Hendrix playing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'?
I think it would be an interesting change.

I think Jimi could have played anything and it would have been interesting (except drunk w/Jim Morrison...the world could have lived without hearing those tapes) I'm just saying he never recorded Over The Rainbow.

I dont know the Album its on, or if it was a single, but I've heard it before on Kazaa. You could probably download it if you want.

Just because it's on Kazaa doesn't mean it's really Jimi Hendrix.

If he did play it though, it would probably be awesome. He can do some mighty fine renditions.

hmmm, I might put money on that, that he never did (except for maybe a quick quote within a solo or something.)

I know Hendrix when I hear him, so does ever guitarist on this forum. Just give it a listen.
Plus, I've seen the tab for it on the net.
He DID do that song.

Bahhhh, I listened to more of that song. Pinch harmonics. Definitly not Hendrix.
But, I dont think I imagined that guitar tab, so Im gonna look for it.

How about Pink Floyds David Gilmour on "Learning to Fly".
Perfect strat tone and phrasing. It doesnt get much better than that...

Alex Lifeson (Rush) on Xanadu, the live version from "Exit Stage Left" - no shred here but still technically difficult involving, as it does, pinch harmonics and volume swells.
David Gilmour, particularly from Pink floydd's Division Bell. Very melodic, beautiful.
Mike McCreedy (pearl Jam) esp. on Ten e.g. Garden. Borders on shred on the song why go.

If I couldn't laugh at myself how could I laugh at someone less ridiculous?
