Two things here: muting & picking precision.
Muting with both hands (fretting and picking) is an important skill. This tutorial is aimed at how to improve it.

Working on precision in picking will also help this issue. This tutorial is aimed at working on developing more precise picking while also keeping muting in the mix.

It also might help to review some of the earlier tutorials in that series.

Keep in mind that learning guitar is constant process of refinement. At first you are just working on getting the notes to sound & picking or strumming them. Then, you start to notice small things like unwanted sounds, or other notes ringing. So, you refine your technique to play the notes while working on muting & pick precision.
So it's a good thing you've noticed the unwanted extra sound! You are working on the next level of refinement in your technique. Keep practicing & best of success.
