Are we going to get anymore new song lessons in the near future, or even in the late future, or never again?
New songs?
Hi Bobk42,
We understand you've been missing new song lessons lately. During this time, we've been dedicating our efforts to enriching other sections of our content library. We're thrilled to let you know that this year we'll be rolling out some exciting tutorials on techniques, styles, and artist studies. These areas have been a bit overlooked compared to our song library in the past few years, and our instructors have been hard at work to bring you fresh, valuable content.
We are committed to providing new content every week so you always have something new to explore. Check out all our latest lessons HERE
If there's a specific song you're eager to learn, you can request it for a personalized 1-on-1 lesson HERE. We're also here to offer tailored feedback to help you improve HERE.
Wow. That answer was telling. Finally in a sneaky way, Bob got them to fess up. No more new songs unless you pay for one on one lessons?
Believe me, I ONLY subscribed for the incredible library they had. It was literally second to none. This site is a shadow of what it once was. Definitely my last time for me. When my subscription expires I’ll save my money.
i would’ve had more respect for y’all if you could’ve been up front. This is the worse way you could’ve revealed/dodged the questions. My advice to you is FIRE the Gen Z’s or whoever are running your PR Department because they lack CLASS and HONESTY.
Hey guys, we are really sorry about not releasing any new songs lately.
We’re trying our best to work on more exciting content but unfortunately it won’t be new songs, at least this year. If there’s anything specific you’re struggling with or want to learn we’re all ears. But at this time we can’t promise the return of new songs because we haven’t been able to secure the licenses for the songs that we know everyone wants.
The music licensing process has been much more challenging lately, and if we can't secure new song licenses, we can't release new songs. It isn't that we don't want to get more songs, or that we don't know which songs everyone wants. If this changes in the future, we will adapt and try to get more songs. In the meantime we are shooting lots of new lesson material and working on new features for you guys. Again, I'm sorry about the songs.

I appreciate the directness of your reply Ben.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
Finally we get confirmation of what many of us suspected. Thanks for finally clarifying the position.
For me, I've still got plenty of songs to learn and skills to improve on. I appreciate the work that goes into these skills sessions. Just a shame for everyone involved that the greed gene is so strong and growing stronger in the people who control the licences.
Cheers
Alf

To tell you the truth I never expected a real answer as I've asked similar questions to this already. I gave GT one last chance and renewed my subscription for this year in the hopes things would get better and to finish learning some of the songs I was working on. I was only here for the songs and now that they're gone so am I. Now that they've finally confirmed my suspicion as to the direction GT is heading I just cancelled my subscription which will end in March 2025.

Finally, a straight answer. You could have informed us months ago instead of remaining silent about it all this time. Better late than never.

Ben, thank you for sending a message out and manning up. This is ALL we wanted. The truth isn’t always popular but it beats childish word games.
Well this is what many of us believed to be the case concerning new songs. It’s sad the music industry or whoever is making policy, this is their direction. I too will let my subscription run its course and I’ll decide if the remaining library is worth renewing. There’s still some good music here and let the record reflect, GT was once the place to go for great rock n roll
Thanks, Ben, for clarifying. Bad news doesn’t get better with time, so I appreciate you all finally being clear about it. This issue isn’t just affecting GT; I have memberships at many of the guitar lesson sites, and I’ve seen a slow down in song lessons at most of them. There are a couple, oddly, where the flow of song lessons hasn’t slowed, and both are large, legitimate companies that I’m sure are paying for licensing. One of them may benefit by being a non-US site, so perhaps the international licensing is more favorable. š¤·āļø
There are still quite a few song lessons in the GT library that are on my “Songs to Learn” list, so I’ll continue to pay for access to those for now, but long term, it may not be worth it for me. Bummer.
I'm reading the replies here and I'm sorry we haven't communicated about this better. Here at HQ we are talking as a team about being more clear and communicating things better with everyone.
I hope the situation with songs changes sometime, and in the meantime I hope we can impress everyone with the new tutorials and features we are working on. Like I said in my previous post, feel free to make requests for non-song content you want to see. We are working on some great new Artist Study tutorials right now because there are so many inspirational players that we don't have one for yet.
Ben,
I appreciate your response. I had cancelled my subscription (to end in Sept) but I am happy to continue if we are at no risk of losing more songs form the library. There are still plenty that I would like to learn but last time we lost songs I had a number that I had learnt some parts and intended to revisit.
I will see how the new style type lessons go.
Personally, I would like some more theory. Most techniques I can play and I can learn the tabs but I struggle to construct a solo or intersting rhythm section, or understand the theory behind some of the song solos so that I can apply them in my own playing.
Ben, thanks for responding and providing clarity on the licensing situation. I value the song tutorials but also believe the instructors on this site are world class. My hope is that they feel appreciated by management and are rewarded for their hard work and willingness to promptly respond to all our questions. I can’t imagine a better group of empathetic and truly engaged instructors than Mike, Lisa, Christopher and Anders. The lessons are fantastic and I can’t imagine running out of things to learn on GT. The instructors are the key to what makes GT unique. They are the brand identity.
Please pass along my sincere thanks to them for all they do.

Thanks Michael, will do. I agree about our instructors, they are the best and we really appreciate them here at GT!

Hey Old Bones, there aren't any 100% guarantees with music licensing, but it's highly unlikely that we will need to remove a big chunk of the song library like we did in the past. We are in a good place with the current library.
Thanks for the request for more music theory. Great idea.
Hey Louie, it doesn't look like we have any metal style lessons being worked on at the moment. What kind of new stuff would you like to see there?

Well if you are able to maintain the current catalog Ben, that is a very sizeable library and still has great content.
Fingers crossed š¤

Hi Ben, I wanted to provide a little more feedback on the GT Brand experience. As I mentioned the instructors do an outstanding job of communicating with members. However there are many other aspects of how GT communicates with members that detract from the experience. Case in point, a few days ago I took advantage of the Fathers Day offer to renew for another year. I received no confirmation of my order or any communication about how to access the bonus material that came with the offer. I even checked my junk mail to no avail. I still have no idea whether the extra year was added to my subscription.
I care about the future of GT and believe you have an opportunity to significantly improve your customer experience. I don’t say this lightly as I have spent nearly 30 years working as a Brand Strategy and Customer Experience consultant. If you are interested I would be glad to have a conversation with you about the GT Brand. This is not a sales pitch, in this capacity I am just a music lover who appreciates what GT has done to improve my guitar skills. If you are interested you can learn more about me in the link below, if not no worries and thank you for your time.

Hi Michael,
I just checked the account associated with your username and I see the last upgrade was from 2023. Could you have possibly upgraded under a new account with a different email address? We would be happy to help sort out this issue. Please send us an email to admin@guitartricks.com for further assistance.
