i have a Peavey guitar that i've had for a while, but never have really played until about a month ago. when i finally desided to just get online and teach myself to play, and when i got it out, the bottom string had broken, and i don't have a replacement string, but i would still like to know how to get the old one out, so it's not so much in my way. So if anyone can help me out, please do. Thanks.

Is the string blocked in any way by screws?
That would mean you have a floyd rose tremolo. Then you'll have to find the right tool to unlock the thingies... Check out some stores, they are usually small Allen Keys.
Otherwise, you just have to take the string off... (I guess my first idea is right, otherwise, you wouldn't be posting here :) )

Post a picture. If you don't have one look on the Peavey website and copy one to post. Make sure it has the same setup as yours does though. There are quite a few ways to do it, but if you are new to it and since you have to buy new strings anyways, I would just take your guitar with you to the music store and ask the sales guy. Contrary to popular belief, you WON'T be the first person in the world to do it, and you certainly won't be the last, so don't be nervous about asking. You will find most smaller music shops to be more helpful because they are the ones that need to build relationships for that "repeat business" thing, unlike the "mega stores". Also he/she will probably also be able to help you pick out the proper guage strings for your guitar so that you won't have to have it reset-up. BTW when you find yourself a set of strings you like, STICK WITH THEM. I've been a GHS string user for 20 odd years. Only with the last set of strings have I tried a different brand. Of course they were the Ernie Ball 5150 set of strings and have since been discontinued. See what changing string brands get you?
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

If the strings just kind of hanging on the guitar and you cant get it out, you can always just use a pair of wire cutters if you dont know how to pull the string out. and when you get it replaced take your guitar with you when you go to buy strings and they will show you how.
