Amp Building Site...

does anyone kno a site that can show/tell me how 2 build a 5 watt solid state combo amp...or just amps in general?

Before you actually build something, you should get a clear idea of what you want, and what it will take to make that happen. The Amp Tone site has some how-to stuff, along with a lot of stuff about what makes things sound the way they do. It's a good place to start.

hmm probably either around the time of the wall of sound era or the late 80's - 90's those just seemed like the times where they were at their best

So you'd say
'74
'89
'90-'93
Probably, right? Good choices.
I know that your dad went to see the dead alot in '91. Too bad Jer was deep in his habit then, at a near 300 lbs, was not playing very well (still incredible, just not jer). the '90 tone is not bad, but they were rockin it in '89. I like the '87 tone, which is a little more Raw, but '87 Jack Straw is the best.
You listen to any early dead? '69 Dark Star, or '68 Other One, or '69 Lovelight, just incredible. True innovation. '69 Dark Star reminds me of Miles Davis with a touch of John Coltrane, combined with a slight attitude/distortion.
I find it kinda funny that you like metal; Jerry once said that metal was the most tasteless music on this earth. Granted, he said that in '87, when pop music wasn't as bad, and people were still for the most part playing instruments.
