hi, by whom it may be read.

i have a strat [floyd rose], and i decided to change the springs [ i think] so it can handle 12 gauge strings.

i dunno how it'll sound but thats ok i can always just have em re done. any suggestions....mainly on like various info i could get on tension, and like if it had no floyd rose, would it be ok to just change from any gauge strings...

DUDE!!!

Man I can only imagine playing on a .012 high E. Hell I don't think my B string is that. I think it's .011.

Well if you REALLY wanna play on those power cables... You gotta set your guitar up for it. Regardless if it is a Tremelo, hardtail, or string through. Reason for that is the heavier the guage string, the more tension on the neck. Thusly, more neck bow. You will almost definitely need a truss rod adjustment as well as possibly adding a spring to your Floyd.

So if you REALLY wanna go there, seek out a good tech. Get references. Don't just let any hack get to your instrument.
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

.012's on an elec guitar w/F.Rose ??
Most of my friends say that my .010's are quite heavy for them ... I guess you're gonna be the first to make that combo , good luck !

My 2 cents: don't jump more than one step , I mean don't go to .012's unless you've tried .011's on the same (or similar) guitar.

Why have a floyd rose, if you are going to use .12's?

Floyd Rose Tremelo's (like all tremelos) Suck tone, and if you are going for the super fat Jazz / Super fat Blues tone, get rid of that ****ing floyd rose.

Just my thoughts.

yeah man take that thing to a guitar tech to intonate i right i learned that the hard way i have a bc rich warlock that i love to play in b tuning so i have to use .60 gauge strings so it will sound right cause if you plan on uses really droped tuning it will sound like **** if you uses .46 gauge strings they will be really lose and my neck on that guitar is **** now because of the tension i am constinly adjusting the trust rod and i have heard a rumor that you can only go so far with your truus rod until your neck just stays bowed and you have to get a new neck

I have an old strat & changed from 10's to 11's reset everything, bridge, pickup heights etc and SHEEEEIIT!!

The sound out of the bridge pick-up is lethal it is an ICEPICK it is very pleasing.

The tension doesn't seem to be very much greater. I will never go lighter and have no desire to go heavier at this stage.

I've been playing D'Addario EXL115W's (.011") for many years, and I'm moving up to EJ21's (.012") on both of my Yamaha SBG1000's. They have Gibson-style tunomatic bridges and tailpieces, so there's no tremolo issue. But I certainly would not be making that move from .009" or even .010" string sets.

Once your guitar is properly set up, and aclimated to the tension increase, you should find:
- much more bass and mids
- thicker tone
- less 'snap' but better sustain
- you may be able to lower the action
- a little trem movement makes a big change in pitch

No i changed my mind....cus the 0.12's would've been too thick for now. I mainly wanted to get em to build strength but i dont wanna **** up the sound make it sound korny hehe pun intended.

anyway, yea just thought i'd let many of u experienced guitarists get the idea out of your head what could a floyd possibly sound like when its tuned to E. hmmm

so 0.10's it is....can't wait to get it back from the shop....
