I have put my old guitar, strap and amp on ebay to sell but nobody has bidded for it yet and it has 5 days left on the site, and im betting that no one will bid for it. So does anybody know a site where i can sell my guitar or a magazine that has guitars for sale in the back of it like some car magazines do so i can send a picture to them and get them to put my guitar in the magazine?

cheers Jowin

This is probably a dumb question, but . . .

Are there any pawn shops or consignment shops within driving distance? I sold my old acoustic Yamaha for $150 on consignment (which meant I got $125), after buying it for $100 years ago. A guitar's value should increase, you know, if it is taken care of.

My feeling is that people don't go looking online for used guitars (unless it's vintage). They head to the pawn shop for that.

Good luck

I live in the U.S., where pawn shops are everywhere. A consignment shop will sell your stuff for you and give you the money once they sell it, keeping a small percentage of course. You guys don't have these types of shops in the UK?

i dont think so no, but i suppose music stores might buy the guitar and amp off me, not that they would give me a fair price, they would give me something like £50 so they can make a profit. :(

There were pawn shops in the UK before the USA even existed!

As for eBay - don't give up just yet. I find that people tend to wait until the last minute in order to keep the price down, and to make it harder for someone to outbid them.

If eBay doesn’t work, you could try putting an ad in your local paper or putting an add up at your local music store or even part exchanging the guitar against a new one (if you want a new one that is !). There are plenty of stores that will take the guitar off your hands, try ringing round the local shops. Id go for music shops before trying the porn shops as you stand a better chance of getting a good price.

I was using "vintage" as an adjective meaning "rare and expensive item." You know, like an antique. I am thinking 50's Les Paul or something. From the prices you were talking about, Jowin, this axe doesn't sound like a vintage item.

Its not a rare vintage item, its just a guitar made by Vintage. I bought it for £120. I just want to sell it because i want to buy some stuff which will cost around £70, i have a newer Ibanez RG270DX so have never play the old any more. I have the ****est amp ever made too that im selling along with the guitar on ebay.

Saying you have the ****tiest amp ever made probably isn't the best ad slogan. :)

I could be wrong about this, but I don't think a $40 saving is something people would buy a used guitar for.I figure that instead of paying $80 to get a used guitar, anyone would rather just add the $40 and buy a new one.I think folks want a substantial saving to make up for the fact that they're buying a used guitar, like say getting something that would cost $600 new for $350 or $400.
And since we all now have the context in which the word vintage is used,well...:)
