I've read in various places that she doesn't write her own stuff and in others that she does. Can anyone tell me exactly what she does do? I personally find it very hard to believe she composed 'I'm with you'

I dunno, I find it very hard to believe that anyone with ears could compose that song.

I think she co-writes, at least some of her songs, I think she has a proffessional co-writer like Britney does, who basically does most or all of the work but only gets half credit. She has a full time band too, so maybe they write the stuff, i dont know.

As I understand, Avril is only responsible for her lyrics and staying pretty (read: "marketable").

If you need a professional to write you a simple 4 chord song consisting of C, G, A, F. Then you are truely pathetic indeed and you have no business in music.

i dont think the problem here is to write the song, but to make it sound , if you know what i mean.
She maybe writes the songs , but it is the session guitar player and the drummer and the producer behind the track who create the whole thing.
Anyhow, shes a cute girl and she doesnt look too cheap unlike britney and christina so who cares :D

At least she isn't peddling sex like Britney wearing jeans with a waistline around her knees and Christina wearing crotchless jeans.Btw,Christina would have completed the look(in the video for, surprise surprise,"dirty")by wearing crotchless knickers as well:DThat would have been dirty.

I also think that she co-writes her tunes. I think she writes a bunch of senseless drivel and the co-writer turns the "ideas"(i.e. crap) into a marketable tune.

As for Britney and Christina, I only watch the video for the "eye candy" appeal.
So. If you throw a cat out of a car window, is it considered "kitty litter"?

Shes done a cover of Knockin On Heavans Door, for the children of the war thing. Heard it a few times n it's ok. Probaby my 3rd fav version, 1st being Guns n 2nd being Dylans Unplugged performance. As for Claptons verson that is just a waste of studio recording time.
My views on Avril is she does contribute to her songs and seems to me to be a little version of Alanis Morrisette. Not orginal, aimed at younger teenagers. Which might not be bad as it could easy them into the rock world.
ps, she would soooooo get it.

No Steve Vai has Thomas McRocklin smash 'em for him....lol :-)
I started learning guitar because of Randy Rhoads..but Yngwie J. Malmsteen is my biggest influence.

Sorry but Avril is no better or worse than Britney or Christina. Infact while Im a guitar band sorta guy I can acknowledge that Christina at least is a great singer!

Her singles were all written by a group of writers here in Los Angeles. They go by the name "The Matrix". She has claimed to write the songs, but it is not true.

I used to bash her a lot, but now I just regard her as another boring muzak bizness thing... I'll just keep doing my best to subvert the industry any way I can...

To me smashing guitars is just a cliche and Ill have no part in it. I dont care about respect for an instrument, to me its just a very expensive tool I use to make music.

Same applies to Christina and Britney (At least that's what I think of them) :-p
