Randy uses penta-scales pretty much. Usualy play´s them in 16-notes feel a instead of doin´ triplet our 32nd runs like most shredders he keeps it down to 16-notes. Very much pickin´ combined with slides and legato technique.

Tapping is important in his technique but I don´t like his whammy bar technique that much.

My fav. Randy solos are without question those 2 on Mr. Crowly, Crazy Train, I Don´t Know and S.A.T.O. I don´t like much free time part at Over The Mountain. Usualy his solos have a kind of unortodox spot where nowone really knows what´s goin´ on, just abuse of whammy bar.

I don´t think that there´s lot´s of classic influence on Randy´s solos. The only ex. I know is the solo in Revelation (Mother Earth), but than again there´s Dee wich is an amazing classic guitar tune.

Randy´s rythm technique is excellent. Nice sound too. He´s also got me into reversed hand stuff.

My opinion on R.R. Amazing guitarplayer from who I gained lot of influence.

Theres alot of classical influences in his playing.
He's the textbook-example of a neo-classical guitarist.
Well maybe not textbook, since he was very innovative,
but he was (and still is) the king of neo-classicism.

But somehow I don´t find his stuff that classical as for ex. Malmsteens. There are definitly signs of classical influence but not many. You can here them in Dee, little bit in Mr. Crowley, definitly in Revelation (M.E.) and You Can´t Kill RN´R and Dairy Of A Madman. However I haven´t heard a lot by Randy live, just those 2 studio albums wich are great (especially Blizzard From Ozz).

But I know that Randy loved classical music, and played lots a-guitar and even took classic guitar lessons. But his playn´ wasn´t that classical at all (my opinion).
