Randy uses penta-scales pretty much. Usualy play´s them in 16-notes feel a instead of doin´ triplet our 32nd runs like most shredders he keeps it down to 16-notes. Very much pickin´ combined with slides and legato technique.

Tapping is important in his technique but I don´t like his whammy bar technique that much.

My fav. Randy solos are without question those 2 on Mr. Crowly, Crazy Train, I Don´t Know and S.A.T.O. I don´t like much free time part at Over The Mountain. Usualy his solos have a kind of unortodox spot where nowone really knows what´s goin´ on, just abuse of whammy bar.

I don´t think that there´s lot´s of classic influence on Randy´s solos. The only ex. I know is the solo in Revelation (Mother Earth), but than again there´s Dee wich is an amazing classic guitar tune.

Randy´s rythm technique is excellent. Nice sound too. He´s also got me into reversed hand stuff.
