What happened? I was half way through learning it and it disappeared of the song list. Is it coming back?

Unfortunately, Guitar Tricks has removed over 300 song lessons today, including all but one Lynyrd Skynyrd song. You can read all about it here: https://www.guitartricks.com/forum/t/60804

I think that thread has been removed.

Thanks for the heads-up though.

Can't really believe it! They've stripped away MANY classic rock songs! WTF? I've really never heard of any instructional website stripping away any content. There's got to be more going on than someone saying you can't continue posting their old songs anymore! Something stinks. I'm just a peon and they can keep their secrets but this is not right!

Another thread crying out for an explanation with no answer. Please please please Ban can you let us know what process caused 300 songs to all go at the same time? Was it purely cost? Surely not all one publisher simply saying nope? We are struggling to comprehend and maybe if we were given the courtesy of a bit more detail to such a wallop we may be more understanding, but a lot of us obviously feel like we have some fair questions unanswered.

It's funny, I've been impressed at how quickly forum questions are answered all along but now the silence is eerily deafening. No one here is making snide political comments or asking about management's sex life. These are straightforward requests for truth concerning the music we were drawn in (some of us years ago), and in a flash much of the material content is gone! All those beautifully crafted videos and painstaking transcriptions are gone. I'd be quick to argue, y'all were almost untouchable in your quality of material and the tremendously talented instructors. Surely guitatricks wasn't targeted by some rock n roll fat cat.

Here's a constructive idea. Y'all slash your inventory and you in turn refund your loyal subscribers with half our subscription. There are words for what you're doing in the business world. Called bait and switch, on a different scale. So disappointing.

Thanks for the heads-up though.

The thread opens and reads fine for me.

Yeah agree w3. Never come across such a culling on an offer without a discount or correspondence before. Pretty unique business model.

Good point. Anyone out there seen this elsewhere? Trying to decide where to go for songs. Lick library looks like got it covered and you get to actually lock in  what you pay for? Tough decision but no explanations coming that make sense so confidence shattered. šŸ¤‘

The only other place I'm aware of this happening was on TrueFire, which began having Song Lessons back in December 2021. They removed six song lessons (Hotel California, For What It's Worth, Dirty Laundry, and three jazz standards) back in January of this year. There was no warning or mention of the removal at all. Only afterwards, when I asked about it on their Discord, did they reply that "several song lessons needed to come down due to licensing issues." That may seem like a small number of songs, but their library is still quite small, and it represented about a 10% reduction.

It's possible this has happened on other sites, too, but these are the only two I'm aware of.

If you purchase an album from Lick Library, it is yours to keep. You can purchase either the DVD or choose to download a zip file and store it on your device of choice.

3 things you don't get, from my experience so far are:

1) Play along or jam track. This is fixable, but costly, by downloading tracks from Karaoke Version.

2) Notation. Nice, but not necessary

3) Reduced playback to 50%, 75% etc. Again, fixable. Record the song using recording software and upload it to YouTube listed as private so it doesn't get deleted. Then use Transpose(Google or Bing addon) to slow it down.

This year the diet is definitely gonna stick!
