Hi,
I'm having difficulty when strumming upstrokes, often i hit just a few strings or my pick get stuck on a string. I was wondering if I have to practice my strumming more or if it is okay to use a thinner pick just for strumming.
Thanks

hey nandre. thinner picks works out for me. i use .45 to .50 mm. as a biginner, thin picks makes one heck of a diffrence, when it comes to struming. it also helps to angle your pic so it woundnt get stuck in between the strings . practice also plays a part as well. i hope this helps
Hi Akeem,
Thanks for your answer, that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure than I don't take a bad habit to get used to thinner picks.
Actually in some of the strumming lessons I've seen you don't necessarily have to hit all the string on the upstroke. It's really a light graze over your treble strings and like Akeem stated angle the pick downward when coming up.
Also definitely a thinner pick and keep your wrist relaxed.

Hi Moe, do you know which lessons is it ? I've tried with a thinner pick and yes it's easier. So should I use a different pick for single notes and chords?
Yes strumming lessons are in the fundamentals 1 section. Both Lisa and Anders and I'm sure Chris have a section on it. Lisa's is in chapter 7 and Anders does it a bit earlier in chapter 2. Are you following the fundamentals lessons? As you get into style courses or specific songs you'll learn even more strumming patterns but for now the fundamental courses should get you prepared. They both go over pick angles and wrist motion.
hope that helps.

I use thinner picks for strumming especially on the acoustic cause those string are thicker and when im playing melody or lead a thicker pick will give you better attack.
good luck
