Going to be taking down 2 big Ash trees in the yard. Are they worth anything for making guitars? I've heard Ash might be hard to find.
Ash trees

I have heard that millers don't want to saw trees that came from a residentual lots. Too much chance there are nails burried somewhere in the trunk. Sometimes there can also be wire burried inside the trunk if it was used for an amature radio antenna. I have also heard that "Metal Detectors" can't read very deep inside wood. At the speed those blades move it doesn't take very long before your have an expensive problem to deal with.
Captcha is a total pain in the........

Thanks snojones that does make sense, dang! Thought it would be cool to have a guitar made from a tree in the yard

DIY project, perhaps?
I wish this forum had a "block user" feature. Possibly I'm not the only one......

Yeah I agree with draconus. I'd be cutting out a few choice slices out of the middle. You might get something with a bit of figuring that could turn out interesting.

Funny, last year we had a huge tree in our yard taken down. A miller knocked on our door asking for wood, and we agreed that he could have it in exchange for building our daughter a headboard (looks great). But we also some left over and I've thought, hmm, maybe that would be a good diy project. But the biggest pieces were left out over winter, so I think the ship has sailed.
