It depends on what you mean by often. But in general, no. Not unless you are playing for hours & hours, or strumming/picking really hard or bending a lot.

I play guitar everyday for at least an hour, most days 3 or 4 hours. I break a high E string at least every few days, especially when I'm bending or playing a lot of rock style licks on the upper strings. Every so often I break a D string. Usually the other strings last for a week or so then I change them on guitars that get the most use.

How often are you playing? How often are you breaking strings? Which strings are you breaking?

It should not break all that often. More often than not, a string will get old and dead before I break it. You may want to have the not and bridge saddle looked at. More oftren than not, the break is at the bridge saddle and particularly for the high E. In those instances, it might be a little burr in the saddle that is rubbing and breaking the string. The guitar tech can smooth that out.

For reference, I used 10's for string now and pretty much never break strings. When I played way more than I do now back in the day, I used 9s and only broke them once in a while.
