Do you have any experience playing solo lead lines on electric guitar? Or is your current playing experience primarily strumming chords on acoustic guitar?

If that's the case, then you should start with learning to play basic single note melodies & lines on electric guitar.

Depending on your current skill level you can either:

1. Start with the rock course & look at the material aimed at lead guitar skills & ideas. Look at Chapter 3 which introduces lead guitar concepts.

2. Dive into my collection of tutorials on improvisation. This assumes you already have the physical skills to playing single note lines in time & that you understand the basics of scale degrees & chord progressions.

3. Start learning solos. This assumes you have the knowledge to understand & skills to play the material! But after learning the basics (outlined in options 1 & 2 above) learning solos by guitarists you admire will give you a repertoire of licks to draw from when you play solos. Pick some songs with basic solos & learn them!

What is your skill level? What songs can you play? Do you have any experience playing lead guitar?

I have been using GuitarTricks for almost a year now. I have really enjoyed using it, but it feels like I have run out of tutorials that interest me or that I can do easily.

[p]What material have you worked on? What tutorials are too hard?

Read this article on learning to solo.

Hope that helps! Please ask more if necessary!
